Details of the new Golf R

Visual sovereignty
Visual sovereignty
Self-confident down to the last detail: a new front section with air curtains and unmistakable lighting design, combined with the “R”-specific side sills, exterior mirror caps, the lower section of the rear apron and the four-flow exhaust system, create an independent exterior look that sets the Golf R apart from the other R models.
Get off to an athletic start
Get off to an athletic start
The 2.0L four cylinder turbo petrol engine of the new Golf R represents the most powerful evolutionary stage of the engine series, and unleashes outstanding dynamics in almost every driving situation. The acceleration is very impressive, with a maximum power output of 245 kW and 420Nm of torque catapulting the new Golf R from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. With the Black Edition, the Golf R can reach top speeds of 270 km/h.
Highly dynamic cornering
Highly dynamic cornering
The 4MOTION all-wheel drive of the new Golf R utilises R-Performance Torque Vectoring, which is already familiar from its predecessor. This allows the drive power to be variably distributed between the front and rear axles and also between the left and right rear wheels. The result: agile driving behaviour and more stability when cornering at higher speeds.
Throaty engine sound
Throaty engine sound
There's something to listen to here. From as low as 2,500 rpm, the typical racing “backfire” can be heard on the outside, which is produced when the engine switches to overrun mode, i.e. when the throttle is released. A sound actuator also ensures that it sounds rougher on the inside.
Individualise your driving style
Individualise your driving style
The range of driving modes is expanding: in addition to the already familiar “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Race” and “Individual” driving profiles, the new Golf R now has the “Eco” driving profile. After a brisk sprint, this mode allows you to slow down a little and make your leisurely journeys more energy-efficient.

Room for individuality
Room for individuality
The interior of the Golf R is ergonomically tailored to the vehicle occupants. The driver and front passenger sit in stylish 'R' Nappa leather seats which feature a carbon look with blue stitching and an 'R' Logo in the seat backrest. The seats increase comfort and stability during dynamic journeys. The multi-function sports leather steering wheel in the new Golf R has been improved for easier operation: compared to the Golf standard model, it has larger DSG shift paddles and is visually appealing with perforated leather in the grip area and a blue steering wheel clasp as well as decorative stitching, also in blue. There are also “R”-specific door side trims, floor mats with the “R”-logo and pedal caps, the brushed stainless steel driver's footrest and a black roof lining. You can also create your own personal feel-good atmosphere with the help of the individually adjustable ambient lighting with 30 possible colours.
Time recording via GPS
Time recording via GPS
Put your skills to the test on the racetrack and record your lap time with the GPS lap timer. This is how it works: the system uses satellite signals to record the start and finish points the first time you drive your chosen route. You can also set up to three intermediate destinations. From the next lap onwards, the system automatically tracks and saves the times at the defined measuring points. After crossing the finish line, the last and the fastest lap are displayed with the respective split times of the individual measuring points.
Precise acceleration measurement
Precise acceleration measurement
Put your driving skills to the test and experience pure driving pleasure with the accelerometer. It offers three different modes: 0 to 100 km/h, 80 to 120 km/h and the quarter mile.
The benefits of the accelerometer: you can not only test the performance of the Golf R, but also learn more about weather, tyre and road surface influences that affect the acceleration behaviour.
Chassis – your athletic support
Chassis – your athletic support
Various features of the sport chassis of the Golf R ensure greater stability, ride comfort and better road holding through state-of-the-art tech such as the intelligent driving dynamics manager, the standard adaptive chassis control (DCC), and the individual ESC control.
Wheel and rim range
Wheel and rim range
The Golf R is equipped with 19-inch "Estroril" alloy wheels with a high sheen surface, or in an all-black trim on the Black Edition. All wheels are fitted with a centre cap which for the first time features the 'R' logo instead of the 'VW' emblem.
The blue-painted brake callipers with the “R”-logo are recognisable behind all rims.
