A GTX is just as efficient as an ID. and accelerates like a GTI, thanks to Volkswagen's powerful electric motors providing dual-motor all-wheel drive set-ups. This all-electric performance elevates the driving experience to that of a GTI level, allowing you to reach your destination in a sportier manner.

The large high-voltage battery in the floor of the electric vehicle ensures a favourable centre of gravity in terms of driving dynamics for a balanced driving performance and good cornering. And, of course, the vehicle has plenty of range as well.

Drive Technology

Ready for almost anything: the GTX all-wheel drive technology.

The GTX series is a trailblazer. In the ID.4, ID.5, and ID. Buzz models, power is generated by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, which consists of two electric motors: one on the rear axle and the other on the front axle. 

This system features electronic control that ensures seamless interaction between the motors. An intelligent ontrol unit quickly determines how to distribute the available drive torque between the two motors. In many driving situations, the rear axle motor is sufficient for traction. However, when a sportier driving style is desired or greater traction is needed, the front axle motor engages automatically, without any noticeable change for the driver.  

Additionally, the GTX models come equipped with a “Traction” driving mode, which enhances grip on loose or slippery surfaces, providing better track guidance and stability.

Our GTX models do not compromise everyday practicality. Each model is designed with generous cabin space to keep every journey comfortable for you and your passengers. They also offer plenty of boot space for luggage and lifestyle gear.

Sportiness and Sustainability

One other strength of the GTX series: Uncompromising performance does not come at the expense of sustainability. As a member of the ID. family, the GTX seamlessly blends a sporty driving experience with responsible driving.

This balance is made possible in part by Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB), which includes a fast-charging battery system designed to make the most of its electric power.

Energy Recovery

Energy recovery for a higher range.

Efficient driving and a smart energy recovery system are crucial for maximising the vehicle's range. In GTX models, the driver can use the gear selector to choose whether the vehicle should coast freely or recover energy when the accelerator is released.

Driving mode D: this mode is automatically activated when you start the electric vehicle, prioritising coasting. When you lift your foot from the accelerator, the vehicle rolls without any propulsion, meaning there is no braking effect from the electric motor and no acceleration. This helps conserve energy.

When the brake is pressed, the energy recovery system activates. The electric motor then functions as a generator to recover energy.

In most everyday driving situations, the deceleration from energy recovery is sufficient, allowing the vehicle to recharge the battery and reducing wear on the hydraulic brakes.

For more aggressive braking, the electric brake servo automatically seamlessly engages the hydraulic brakes.

If the energy recovery should take precedence over coasting, the drive mode rocker switch can be used to switch from D mode (like “Drive”) to B mode (like “Brake”) at any time. In B mode, the vehicle will recover energy during the process of deceleration up until the vehicle comes to a stop.
